In her halt Hurt People Hurt People Dr. Wilson (2001) expresses the concept of unobserved go againsts and how to break a cycle of hurt begetting hurt within the therapeutic relationship and on the path toward health, well being, and wholeness. Dr. Wilson (2001) explains how we wound ourselves and others with the self protective maneuvers we chose early in life (pg. 124). The motive begins her book with an examination of unseen wounds and deep seated grow that emerge within ones childhood, family patterns, and social experience during their upbringing. Wilson describes systems of hurt that have developed from within ones experience (particularly from childhood) that lend themselves toward systems of hurt being repeated and or cycled throughout the individuals continuing life. Furthermore she expresses that the ab employ often run short the abuser as well as continue to be abused, suggesting a prolific cycle of hurt.
