This essay focuses on an awareness campaign for Narcolepsy, a cat sleeping disorder that is extremely under-recognized and often misdiagnosed by public practitioners and other primary health-care workers. In the first part of this paper, I will focus on narcolepsy in general, its epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment as sanitary as underlying mechanisms (and environmental factors )that can influence and/or cause the development of this distemper. I will explain why narcolepsy has a devastating impact on a tolerants life and how it interferes with their daily routine and reduces their general persona of life. Finally, I will describe how an awareness campaign could numerate like, in order to address the problem of the general ignorantness of this disease in our society.

Narcolepsy in general
Narcolepsy is a chronic and incapacitating sleeping disorder that lasts throughout the lifetime, with an estimated prevalence of 0,02% in the general adult population worldwide. It is associated with a variety of symptoms that vary in their degree from individual to individual and is closely linked to hypocretin (orexin), a neurotransmitter that is involved in the regulation of sleep and wakefulness.



Studies revealed reduced to unaffected(p) levels of hypocretin in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as well as the selective loss of hypocretinergic neurons [4,15.1] in the posterior hypothalamus of narcolepsy patients [47.1]. The onset of this disease occurs usually during adolescence or young adulthood with a fragile male predominance. Preceding the onset of symptoms associated with narcolepsy, most patients experience events of big(p) importance in their daily routine, like traumas, pregnancy, high levels of line or sudden change of sleep schedules[ 22.1].
