Sir Robert Gordon Menzies Biography Robert Menzies was born on the 20th of December 1894 in a town called Jeparit, Victoria. His parents werent rattling wealthy, his father James was a shopkeeper and his mother, Kate was the traditional house wife. Robert always did well in school; he learnt to read at a very young age. He commencement started out in a one-teacher school called Humffray State School. Teachers saw great potential in Menzies and pushed him hard to his studies. Robert Menzies topped the State in the Victorian experience examination when he was a year younger than average. He then got a scholarship that allowed him to attend Grenville College, Ballarat for two geezerhood with no schooling fees at the age of eighteen. He afterwards went to Melbourne University to study law. He won many prizes and graduated with first class honours. In 1918 his orator skills got him a reputation as an excellent barrister then was elected to the Victorian parliament representing the nationalistic party in 1928. In 1929 Robert was decreed kings counsel. In 1932 Robert was appointed Attorney-general, minister of religion for railways and deputy premier. Menzies quit state politics in 1934 to challenge the federal seat of Kooyong for the joined Australian party.

When Menzies was in the federal parliament he was appointed the position of attorney-general and minister for Joe Lyons. In 1938 he challenged Joe Lyons for leadership of the party, when Menzies was defeated he resigned as a minister and as a deputy eyeshade minister. The next year Joe Lyons died and Robert Menzies was elected as the leader of the united Australian party and as the larger party that meant he assumed the prime ministership.
