Assessing Visual Art
Las Meninas or The Maids of repay is a piece that in my opinion shows the complexity and principal of artist that existed far beyond our time. In my assessment I have collapsed the grammatical constituents and principles of ocular designs. Furthermore, I have interpreted a deeper look at the historical and cultural take account of this timeless piece of work. Las Meninas has coined the phrase of more than what meets the eye.
Las Meninas a piece by Diego Velazquez, is angiotensin-converting enzyme that has received much analyze and still to this day holds many unanswered questions. The oil-painting was birthed in 1656 during the Spanish Golden Age, in Madrid, Spain. This was a time where art contained an element of mystery which was unique. Velazquez uses Naturalism an Illusionism to captivate and confuse as simultaneusly. (Rivera, N 2009)
My first assessment is that of the six elements of visual design. Initially I noticed the room was captured 2-dimensionally and the entire space was included. It is as if I am in the room with the subjects. The people seem to be in motion at the time of the painting vs. present for a portrait. The artist left no element unaccounted for.



The lines are clearly defined as if on a grid, oddly on the ceilings, windows, and the back of the canvas. The light seems to be natural illumination as if it were coming through the windows, which further lets me know that it is daylight in this moment. The texture is evident and given to the dresses, the dog, and even the windowpanes. What I find most interesting how the artist encompasses these elements is that he doesnt make the viewer want to focus on one particular thing. Everything to the painting on the walls draws attention as if I were walking into the palace for the very first time.
